Topher Ellis

The Delmarva Aces South are proud to announce the addition of Topher Ellis to the coaching staff for the 2019-2020 season where he will serve as the Head Coach of the 14u Aces South team.

Coach Ellis is a Virginia Beach native and was a standout at First Colonial High School. While at FCHS, he earned All-District, All-Region, All-Tidewater, and All-State honors as a catcher and pitcher. He led the 2005 team to the state quarterfinals and the 2006 team to the state semifinals.

After high school, Ellis went on to start 44 of 47 games in two seasons at D1 Longwood University where he earned Rookie of the Year honors and led the team to a 34-19 record in the 2007 season. After his sophomore year, he transferred to D2 Mount Olive College where he led the Trojans to a 41-11 record as a starter at catcher, second base, and third base in 2010.

In 2012, Ellis joined the coaching staff at the University of Mary Washington as the assistant baseball coach, recruiting coordinator, and third base coach for the Eagles. From 2012-2016, Coach Ellis led the UMW baseball program to an overall record of 78-58, including a record breaking season of 27-7 in 2015. In 4 seasons at UMW, Ellis coached 16 All-CAC players, 1 Conference Player of the Year, 1 All-American, and helped 2 UMW catchers sign professional contracts with the independent league.

In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, he also served as the Director of Strength and Conditioning for all sports at UMW and was the Head Coach for the Tidewater Hawks of the TSL where he coached current Greensboro Grasshopper and 16th round pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, Colin Selby.

Ellis is also the co-owner of Coastal Sports Center and an Assistant Coach with the Virginia Wesleyan University baseball team.
