Chris Bengel
Chris Bengel joined the Delmarva Aces in September 2021.
He enters the Aces program with more than 20 years of baseball coaching experience. He will step in immediately with the program, where he will instruct in the Aces winter academy, assist in camps and run private pitching instruction. Additionally, he will coach with several Aces teams including 2024 American and 10U Coastal.
He joins the orange and black after two years coaching at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. During his stint with the Hawks, he lowered the pitching staff era from 8.69 in 2019 to a very respectable 4.79 in 2020. Prior to UMES, he coached at Dulaney High School and averaged 17 wins per season in his six-year span with the Lions. Bengel coached three Baltimore County pitchers of the year at Dulaney.
Before his tenure at Dulaney, he was the Head JV coach at Calvert Hall and won seven championships in his eight years with the program. He also spent a year as the Director of Baseball Operations and was an assistant varsity baseball coach. Additionally, he was Director of Admissions for 18 years and taught the junior/senior business management elective.
Bengel was drafted in the 22nd round of the 1983 MLB Player Draft by the Baltimore Orioles out of Calvert Hall. He played four years with the Cardinals before he attended The Citadel. He was a four-year starter, received the Ace Award and was selected Second-Team All-Conference. He would go on to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
